Generations of the pioneering Darby family helped to shape our industrial world. Their furnace at Coalbrookdale produced plentiful cheap cast iron, used for the manufacture of cooking pots, iron wheels, iron rails and ultimately the world's first cast iron bridge.

Now the furnace is at rest and the Great Warehouse opposite is home to a museum that celebrates the history of early iron making. The top floor is given over to a spectacular collection of fine art casting, a legacy to the great skills of the Coalbrookdale Company craftsmen and the versatility of iron.
