Tracey Jones, Aramark Catering Supervisor at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, beat off tough competition in a National competition for best barista amongst all Costa Coffee franchised outlets. Tracey who came third in last year’s national finals took the top spot this year after impressing the judges with her own chocolate orange coffee creation.
Tracey was chosen as the Regional winner in October 2011 and went on to reach first place in the National finals. Tracey competed with six other regional winners in the final competition which took place at the Costa Head Quarters in London on Friday 20th January 2011. Tracey attended with Aramark Catering Manager Bill Pettit and Regional Operations Manager Richard Macky. On reaching first place she was presented with a glass trophy and an iPad2. Her trophy will soon go on display in the Museum.
During the competition each finalist had to make one of every Costa drink. Each drink was judged on how well they were presented, their consistency and their speed of service. All finalists were asked to create their own coffee based drink as part of the judging criteria, this included identifying which ingredients to use, working out the costing and deciding on the final presentation.
Tracey Jones, Aramark Catering Supervisor, says: “After considering the full Costa product range it was noted that we don’t have an orange based syrup. With this in mind, the idea of a Mocha with a mulled wine twist, minus the alcohol of course was born, making the perfect Cosford Winter Warmer.”
Bill Pettit, Catering Manager at RAF Museum Cosford says: “Everyone who has tried the Cosford Winter Warmer has been impressed with the drink. It will now be available for visitors to try at the RAF Museum Cosford and the recipe will be made available on the Aramark website for all other Aramark Costa outlets to try. ”
For anyone wishing to try the new drink, it is now available in the Museum’s Refuel Restaurant. The Museum is open daily from 10am, admission is FREE. For more information on the Museum please call 01902 376200 or visit www.rafmuseum.org
