Pumpkin Trail for half term at Stokesay Castle

Saturday 25th October - Sunday 2nd November

The leaves are turning, the nights are drawing in, so Hallowe’en must be just around the corner. And at Stokesay Castle, near Ludlow, this half term holiday, visitors will be invited to go hunting the pumpkins with a spookily fun word scramble!

The fortified manor house is the perfect location for the trail – small and compact enough for children to explore within the safety of the walls, yet with enough nooks and crannies that they will have to look high and low to find eight pumpkin pictures, each printed with a scrambled word.. When they have unscrambled the word it will reveal a spooky creature and the secret key to them claiming their small sweet prize!

“The autumn is a lovely time at Stokesay Castle, with plenty of dry indoor areas providing shelter from the chilly winds, so this really is a castle for all seasons,” says visitor operations manager, Nola Ames. “The long shadows and changing foliage make the site look so different from the summer months, and with the pumpkin trail occupying the children, parents can take a moment to enjoy the peace of this beautiful location.”

Children visiting the site in the run-up to Hallowe’en also love the fact that they have to walk through the graveyard of the neighbouring church to get into the castle. “It really sets the scene perfectly for the pumpkin trail, although there are actually no stories of ghosts linked to Stokesay – it is a friendly site day and night!” adds Nola.

Stokesay Castle is open all year round. Throughout half term (Saturday 25 October to Friday 31 October), the Castle is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and from 1 November, opening hours are 10.00am to 4.00pm. Admission prices are £5.00 for adults, £4.00 for concessions and just £2.50 for children, with a family ticket (two adults and up to three children) available for £12.50. English Heritage members get in free.
